Blogger Outreach Campaigns: @Expedia, @SouthwestAir and @HiltonHHonors

While some enjoy the comfort of staying at home, there are others who have been happily bitten by the travel bug – and hoping there is no cure in sight. Whenever you overhear someone’s conversation about their recent trip, you can’t help but itch to know more. Two hours later, you are still talking their ear off about their adventures and envisioning your own.

Planning your trip can be thrilling but also overwhelming with the copious amount of options to consider. We often turn to our online friends – travel bloggers – to help smooth out the process of planning as we expect genuine and credible content in regards to transportation and accommodation.

Travel brands have become more aware of the importance of these online playgrounds and have taken off with blogger outreach campaigns to target the avid travelers and bloggers that align with their market. Today, we look at Hilton, Expedia and Southwest Airlines, and how they have been soaring over their competitors.

Hilton HHonors’ Great Getaway Giveaway

Hilton has been ahead of the social game from the get-go, and with the recent outreach campaign from their guest-loyalty program, Hilton HHonors, there is no sign of the brand slowing down. With their Great Getaway Giveaway event taking place from June 10 to August 4, viewers have the opportunity to win a vacation by voting for their favourite trip in each category: Relaxation, Adventure, Culture, and Food & Wine.

To help promote this giveaway, Hilton HHonors brought in three bloggers, including Lisa, from Life with Lisa, to experience the Adventure package. As a result, all bloggers shared real, genuine content of their amazing experience on their blogs. Hilton HHonors is a great example of how using blogger outreach campaigns can help build brand resonance and trust among consumers.

Expedia’s Viewfinder Film Contest

Expedia’s partnership with National Film Festival for Talented Youth (NFFTY) continues to grow with the impressive entries from last year’s campaign – “Find Your ____”. This year’s event, called Expedia Viewfinder Film Contest, ran for the month of June and all travel bloggers were encouraged to share a blog post about where they would “find theirs” from a selection of cities. The winner has yet to be declared by the panel of judges but upon selection, he/she will enjoy an all-expense paid trip to the winning destination to film a 2-3 minute “Find Yours” video.

What a great way to encourage travelers to participate and share unique stories while adding a personal and emotional touch to your travels! Can’t wait to see the final footage!

Southwest Vacation Airlines

Glitz and glamour, fancy hotels, shopping and nightclubs. You either hate Vegas or can’t get enough of it.  If you were a part of the latter group, you will be bummed that you missed out on Southwest Airlines Vacation outreach campaign with bloggers in May. For a short period, Southwest worked with a number of bloggers, including Allison from Dream a Little Bigger, to share with their readers the amazing savings on different priced packages to Sin City with a promo code!

What do you think of these blogger outreach campaigns? Have you seen any other Travel/Tourism campaigns that stand out? I would love to hear from you in the comments below!
